Nonfiction Book Coaching
Nonfiction Book coaching sessions are in person, by phone, or a mix of the two. At the first session, we’ll talk about your business, recent life experiences, current situation, biggest challenges, joys, and your goals. Although that introductory time often takes more than one session, we will set a modest goal for you to work on for our next meeting. It’s good to begin moving forward right away!
Phone and in-person session will be up to 60 minutes, with the last 10 minutes focusing on your “assignment” to work on before we talk again.
Do you have a nonfiction book inside you, longing to be written?
We’ll start with your topic, notes, or partial (or complete) manuscript, and
work on book structure, content, style, intended audienc and maintaining
a high quality throughout our work.
We can set up a FREE 30-minutes phone call
to let us get to know each other.
Just go to the CONTACT page
and leave an email where I can reach you to set up our call!
Business-Related Book Coaching
On the Shark Tank TV show, Robert Herjavec once told a talented
IT product developer. “You’ve got a great product there that people will want. But man, you don’t have any identity! Go home and
write a book! Build your foundation.”
The implication being – then come back to me for funding or just start.
(The Business Book Coaching hourly fee is $150 per hour, slightly higher than for other nonfiction coaching.)
~ Add “Author of…” to Your Business Credentials ~
Writing a book about some aspect of your profession speaks volumes (sorry) about your level of knowledge and experience. That action will be a powerful promotional tool for you for as long as you live – not just this month or year. How?
On your business cards and brochures, website, blog and guest post, speaker’s title, article byline, or special reports. You can quote from your book online or off. (Be sure to provide a website or Amazon link.) The opportunities are endless. Oh, and you can earn a few $$$ selling both print and ebook copies.
As your book coach, I’ll guide you in:
- Deciding on the kinds of information you want to share,
- Choosing the style – handbook, guidebook, handy tips or others,
- Creating a working Table of Contents (actually a rough outline),
- Fund your working title and subtitle (important for SEO),
that will really connect with your readers!
Then the writing begins ~
At our first Introductory Coaching Session (60 minutes), you’ll receive a workbook, which we’ll use to do a project analysis, target market identification, and preliminary work plan. All book are organic! They will continue to develop and grow as you work on them – fiction or nonfiction. But you need to have a basic structure in mind before you can begin. We’ll develop that together.
“Memoirs”
or “How I Conquered a Major Life Challenge”
Book Coaching
Have you ever lived through an emotionally painful life challenge? Who hasn’t? It may have been our health or that of a close friend or family member.
- Someone’s mother was an alcoholic.
- A friend experiences post-polio symptoms.
- A past client suffered from severe psychological disorders.
- In late 2008 and 2009 the U.S. faces Recession, thousands of working Americans who were “downsized,”out of a job or business owners who struggled to just break even
plunged into deep depression. The economy had tanked.
Did you (or they) learn how to deal effectively with one or more of those huge life hurdles? And do you feel drawn to help others learn from your journey? Whether those methods solved the problem or simply helped, learning them might be just the boost somebody needs to climb up out of their personal hole.
Writing a book to help others is an amazing energizer for developing and writing a book. And I can help you, just as I did Barbara Altman who wrote (see sidebar).
Coaching to Build an Effective Media File for Book Promotion
If you’ve written a “commercially viable” book, i.e. one that you plan to sell, you’ll need to develop a Media File for use on your website or for email and print distribution. That will include:
- News Release on the New Book,
- Background News Release,
- Sample Media Interview Question Sheet,
- Information Tidbits & Fun Facts About Your Book’s Topic,
- A Speaker Available Page.
I can coach you through the planning and writing of all of those. Samples of each will be included at our first Media File coaching session.
As founder and owner Pen Central Press publishing company and a nonfiction author myself, I bring over 18 years of book business experience to my coaching clients.
