“Writing a book” sounds like scary, foreign territory to most non-authors. Sure it takes some work, but there’s a secret: once you have a plan, you have a self-created map to follow. It’s no longer a mystery, but a way of sharing information you’re already familiar with in a format that’s understandable to your reader.
That means that once you get started with the first few ideas, the others will follow. And with a little guidance, you’ll soon be an author, too!
#1. Your Starting Plan
Choose Your Topic, Identify Your Target Market (Reader), Define Your Purpose in Writing the Book, and Create a Can Do Slogan for Yourself! (go home and start scribbling)
#2. Time to Write
Select the General Structure of the Book — narrative (personal experience stories, information, and helpful suggestions for the reader) or more business-oriented bulleted lists with informational inserts. Write a working Table of Contents with main topics, subtopics, and such. That will be a virtual outline.
#3. Progress Sharing, Questions, and Book Promotion
We’ll begin with a check on individual progress, with lots of time for your questions and group brainstorming. Then we’ll look at some of the ways you can begin to build interest in your book now.
